Suggested Steps for a Successful Proposal

The following steps are suggested for preparing and completing a successful proposal.  The ORDRCC can provide assistance in numerous aspects of this process.

  1. Develop a project idea based on gaps in existing research studies
    • Design a clinical study
    • Consult with ACI Core Facility directors on feasibility of research design and how to best use the available resources
    • Identify and select research collaborators and mentors
    • Select study cohort
  2. Prepare and submit pilot project application
    • Identify funding sources (pilot project funding, NIH grants, research fellowships, etc)
      • The ORDRCC offers Pilot Project Funding.  Click here for more information about this funding mechanism
    • Work with a clinical research coordinator to develop IRB applications and informed consent forms
    • Prepare grant according to guidelines found at funding sites
  3. Conduct clinical research study
    • Manage research budget
    • Recruit study participants
    • Gather necessary de-identified demographic, clinical, and experimental data
    • Write and submit project progress reports every quarter or every six months during the funding period
  4. Completion of the study
    • Prepare and submit study closeout report following NIH guidelines
    • Publish study results
      • Correctly acknowledge grant support
      • Follow and comply with NIH public access policy

Please contact Mary Flynn (mary-flynn@omrf.org) for ORDRCC assistance with any step.
