Researchers with the OMRF Sjögren’s Syndrome CORT along with a international coalition have identified six new genes associated with Sjögren’s Syndrome. Genes from about 2,000 samples from patients with Sjögren’s syndrome were compared to genes from more than 7,000 healthy controls. IRF5, STAT4, and CXCR5 were found to be associated with Sjögren’s syndrome. More research is necessary to uncover more Sjögren’s syndrome associated genes and how these disease-related genes play a role in the development of Sjögren’s syndrome. These research findings are published in the journal of Nature Genetics.
